The Passion Play

The Passion Play will celebrate its 28th year in production in 2020. Hosted by Shepherd Church, The Passion Play is considered the last remaining musical production in Southern California that chronicles the last days of Jesus Christ on earth. This annual event has become a local tradition for thousands of Angelinos as they prepare to celebrate Easter. Each year, however, there is always something new and fresh in the production to make the experience unique. When you purchase a ticket to The Passion Play, a significant portion of the proceeds will help Los Angeles-based community-minded ministries.

About the Passion Play

The Passion Play is written and directed by Chip Hurd, actress and former director of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and the award-winning audio bible, The Bible Experience. Executive Producer Susanne Walden has overseen the production of The Passion Play for the past 16 years.

Vocal Director Maxi Anderson is a producer and singer whose voice is heard in The Lion King, Dream Girls, and recordings with a number of Grammy-award winning artists. Musical Director and Orchestrator Steven A. Taylor is recognized for the diversity of his work which extends from musical theatre to film and writing of the classic, Hallelujah You're Worthy. The majority of the play's musical score is written by Chip Hurd and Co-Composer Steven A. Taylor, with additional contributions by Eric Dawkins, Ray Reynolds, Michiko Hill, and others.
